Afghani Balkh – Authentic Landrace from Northern Afghanistan
A Jewel from the Historic Balkh Region
Afghani Balkh originates from northern Afghanistan, specifically from the culturally rich Balkh region. This area is one of the oldest cultivated landscapes in Central Asia. As early as the Silk Road era, it was known for high-quality agricultural products—including resin-rich cannabis varieties. In this traditional environment, a hardy and genetically original line emerged, now known as Afghani Balkh.
Strain Description: Afghani Balkh
Afghani Balkh stands out for its unaltered genetics and its suitability for traditional hashish production. Users have reported a deep, creamy, and spicy aroma with an oily undertone. The plant has an upright growth habit and narrower leaves compared to typical Indica types. In autumn, especially with dropping temperatures, intense colors from dark purple to nearly black can develop.
The generation first propagated in Germany is based on a selected mother plant that demonstrated good stability and mold resistance in outdoor conditions. Two different male plants were used for pollination to ensure broad genetic diversity.
Outdoor Cultivation in Germany
The offered generation was first propagated from original seeds under Central European conditions. A mother plant was specifically selected for its performance under late flowering in outdoor settings. It was pollinated with pollen from two different males to maintain the landrace’s genetic diversity.
Afghani Balkh is not a modern hybrid, but a traditional landrace. Therefore, variations in growth and flowering duration may occur depending on phenotype. Experience in observing and selecting suitable plants is advantageous. A sunny, well-ventilated garden location is ideal. In humid regions, mold inspection should begin in mid-September. This strain is not suitable for guerrilla growing or very damp sites.
Harvest time is typically in the second half of October. With patience and careful attention, particularly expressive plants with aromatic profiles can be discovered— a treasure for lovers of original genetics and ideal for breeding projects.
